DESCRIPTION
On the surface, the Enve MOG might not appear to offer anything too different from other carbon gravel bikes on the market, but look behind those clean lines, and you’ll find some pretty clever design ideas that make the MOG a quietly radical (and rad) little machine.
When Enve was designing the MOG, they purposefully dialed into the demands of the trail and the wants and wishes of the off-road bike community. The result is a genuinely democratic gravel bike that blends best-in-class basics like low weight, a durable, comfortable carbon chassis and generous geometry options with off-the-beaten-track ideas like in-frame storage, clean and well-executed internal cable routing, and up to 50mm tire clearance, optimized for the 700c standard.
And if anything tells you what the MOG is about, it’s the wheels it’s designed to run. Clearly, Enve has recognized that the modern rider is overburdened with options. So by designing the MOG around the 700cc standard, Enve has made a case for performance-driven simplicity. In other words, changing your tire width is in; switching your wheel standard is out. To that end, Enve recommends running 40mm tires for wet and muddy conditions and smooth, fast gravel terrain. And 50mm tires for dry and loose days, where rocky and technical gravel conditions dominate the trail.
When it comes to getting the perfect fit, the Enve MOG’s generous tire clearance is rivaled by the wide range of frame sizes on offer. Six, in fact, as well as three fork rakes with a la carte handlebar, stem and seat post options. We said this was a democratic bike. Enve calls the MOG the most readily customizable fixed geometry gravel bike on the market, and we’d have to agree.
No writeup of the Enve MOG would be complete without a look inside the frame’s downtube to what Enve calls their ‘Cargo Bay’ system, a modular in-frame storage solution a rider can configure to carry anything from flat repair accessories and survival supplies to personal accoutrements. At 0.6 liters, it’s real-world roomy. But if you’re worried about rattles, don’t be: every MOG comes with two lightweight neoprene cargo bags designed to stow your stuff and prevent in-frame noise. One goes up the tube; one goes down. Neat.
